Abu Ghosh is one of the most important villages in the Jerusalem Mountains, situated on the main axis at the entrance to the city of Jerusalem.
The town is developing across various fields – culture, leisure, sports, and tourism – and has become, over the years, one of the sought-after destinations for both domestic and international tourism. The village contains historic buildings, churches, and mosques of great beauty and rich history.
The awareness of local residents of the location's importance and beauty has contributed to launching projects in various fields, particularly culture and tourism, such as an annual music festival, guesthouses, and the conversion of the British police building into a hotel.
A new council building is proposed at a location offering panoramic views of the entire historic core of the village, connecting the road and public transport systems to the regional area as a whole. The architectural idea is to connect the surroundings with the historic core of the village through a central courtyard that climbs the existing topography, an amphitheater for various cultural activities, and commercial construction along the main road, serving as a separation barrier that provides privacy for the rural village. The council building, with its diverse functions, hovers above the courtyard and amphitheater, creating a new gateway to the village.
